The Banyan Tree – poem by Maitreyi, a 6th grade Courage Group student of Mirambika

Swinging from the branches

Performing dances

Playing and singing

In the shade of the Banyan tree…

Climbing and jumping

Screaming and shouting

Playing in the shade

Of the Banyan tree…

But no one is swinging

No dancing, no singing

The place is empty

Around the Banyan tree…

No body’s playing

But the branches are swaying

Swaying are the branches

Of the Banyan tree…

Take us back!

So we can swing

Dance and play

Jump and sing….

Let us please climb

Just a zillion times

Climb the branches

Of our Banyan tree!
